Forty Channels and Faster Switching in CeeBee

A look at the channel-switching work now documented across the Dutch, English and German networks.

CeeBee organises its web radio experience around 40 numbered channels. Selecting a channel chooses where you listen and request a speaking turn. The channel number belongs to the virtual radio service; it should not be interpreted as a physical CB transmission frequency.

Recent development introduced a faster switching path across the Dutch, English and German radio networks. Within one language network, the documented implementation retains the existing audio connection while changing the authorised channel. Switching to another language network still establishes a separate connection.

Keeping a connection alive does not mean receiving every channel. Channel selection and media permissions still need to enforce the station's current listening and transmitting rights. The switching sequence ends PTT first, updates the channel and returns to listening; a new speaking turn is required before transmitting again.

The project documentation records checks of channel changes using the same connection identity and verification that a listening session did not gain transmission rights. It also describes Android and browser work around the new switching path. These software and connection checks do not substitute for every combination of real devices and spoken conversations.

For a user, the practical advice remains straightforward: choose a channel, listen before speaking and pay attention to the current connection state. If a change appears to stall, use the available recovery controls rather than assuming the microphone should remain active.
